Finally

Apple finally updated the iMac yesterday, after I had been impatiently waiting since August for them to do so. I happily ordered my spiffy new 24″ 2.93GHz iMac 4GB upgrading the graphics card and getting iWork 09 preinstalled. My Adobe CS4 is already on its way to boot. I am so happy I can’t stand it!

AIGA: Great Resources for Designers

One of my professors went on and on about AIGA so I looked at the site again and I tend to agree with her. Great resources.

AIGA student members gain access to an incredible networking tool: the AIGA online membership directory (listing all 19,000 members across the country). Student members may purchase the design annual, 365: AIGA Year in Design at a deep discount.

AIGA members are also offered discounts on other design publications, overnight courier services, long-distance telephone services and health insurance. All in all, the AIGA student membership is a bargain, not to mention a terrific inroad into the profession.

Homage to Andy

Homage to Andy

Homage to Andy

In Visual Arts Foundations we have a project that pays Homage to Andy. Well this is my bit but with a modern obamaish ad twist on my favorite actor Sean Connery.

Quench That Thirst

Quench Water

Quench Water

After what seems like forever we finally got to our first Illustrator project in Computer Graphics. I was so thirsty to get going, that I designed Quench water.

Seasons Change

I love a change in seasons. Right now, spring is starting to make itself known around here. I have day lilies popping up and its time to start thinking about what to take course wise in the next semester. I have been mulling this over quite a bit actually. I am pretty sure my hubby Nate would like to see me more, so I will take less night courses.

In fact since the summer schedule doesn’t have some of the classes I really want,  like drawing II, so I think I will give myself a bit of a break and focus on boring but required conventional course electives like English composition, and math (artists always hate math lol). In fact I think I will try online courses and stay home for those precious 10 weeks of summer. In the fall I can load up on as many Graphic Design and fine art courses as possible. Man, I dig my life. :)

Overheard

I am quietly sitting in easy pose waiting for my yoga class to start yesterday, and right in the middle of my trying to get in touch with my breathing two of the recent high school grads in my class start talking about how all their friends are breaking up. The common suspicion was that the boys involved wanted to avoid buying valentines gifts so the rats were breaking up with the dear girls preemptively I try to block them out but after about ten minutes of the banter I laugh a little and give them some perspective; Boys are a waste of energy till they hit about thirty. They did have the sense to laugh at that.  Thank goodness class started right after that.

Thoughts on Inaugural Address

I can’t tell you I wasn’t moved by President Barack Obama’s inaugural address today. Being the change lover that I am liked the following statements best:

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

Good stuff.

No Apparent Duds!

I am so happy about the classes I took this semester! Computer Graphics seems interesting, if a tad slow at this point for all the people that haven’t used a Mac or Illustrator before. The instructor tends to monologue alot though, that could get annoying. Foundations will be jam packed with different media and techniques,  I am hoping to fall in love with painting or be surprised by something along the way. Drawing  should be a blast as well, I really think my professor is going to be great. I am partial cause she went to SCAD for her masters, and I have a ‘thing’ for SCAD. Yoga, my only non art class, is also enjoyable. I have a winning semester on my hands that I think I am really going to enjoy.

To Wait Is Eternal

Well looks like I will be waiting longer for that iMac update from Apple since there was no new iMac announcement at MacWorld yesterday. At least I have Adobe CS4 on my PC so I can work on my computer graphics class projects at home. Perhaps I will just get a shiny new HP laptop. Too bad they are not as sturdy as the Apple ones,  but the price difference makes up for that I suppose.

Happy New Year!

New year and fresh starts always make me happy. I guess I am one of the few people that I know that loves change. I think it must be the artist in me that likes to see things shift in perspective. This year I am excited that I get to take a semester of purely art classes with no general education to drag me down creativitely. I am also excited that we will have a new president. I am also still hoping that Apple will update their iMac line,  although it might not be at MacWorld like I have hoped, it should be sometime this year. Yup,  I like change.

Looking back over 2008 Paulo over at Abduzeedo, a blog I like to follow for inspiration,  recently posted a 2008 recap post that is worth looking through.
